One special part of a child's education at Grace Brethren Schools is grade level field trips. These trips provide a special connection with the curriculum they have been studying. Along with their teachers, Administrator, and parent chaperones, students visit and experience science and history with a hands-on learning experience.
Kindergarten 2 "K2"
The month of January is dedicated to winter. In studying winter we explore animals that live in cold climates like the Arctic. We focus on the characteristics like hibernation, and how God gives these animals the ability to survive in such climates. The culmination of this theme is to bring it all together with a day in the snow. Twelve tons of snow is delivered to the campus and it is an experience that is well remembered by the students.
Cost for this activity is approx. $60 per student, which covers the cost of the snow and hay.*
IRIS SMOOT/Acorn Newspapers February 2, 2009 SNOW FOR A DAY—Dillon Walia, center, and Anthony Vertullo, both 5, scream with glee as they slide down a hill of tightly packed powder during the seventh annual Snow Day at Grace Brethren Elementary School last Friday. About 60 children, in grades kindergarten to second, enjoyed 12 tons of delivered snow, which teacher Lanan Kendall reported didn't melt completely until Monday.
Second Grade
Students venture out "26 miles across the sea" on a boat to Catalina Island to learn about the island and its flora and fauna. Their day-long adventure includes exploring under the sea on a glass bottom boat, touring the interior of the island and even "feeding the fish." This unique trip is topped off by eating lunch and shopping in the lovely city of Avalon.
Cost for the trip is approx. $225 per parent + student, which includes all admissions including boat fare.*
Fourth Grade
Our students are thrilled by their three day trip to San Francisco and Sacramento, enhancing their study of California history. They travel by air to San Francisco; we board coach buses to visit the Exploratorium, enjoy a trolley tour of the city, see the Golden Gate Bridge and eat and shop at Pier 39. Then, we visit the Jelly Belly Factory on our way to Sacramento. Our students will tour Sutter's Fort, pan for gold in the American River at Coloma, visit the State Capitol, the Railroad Museum, and have a chance to shop in Old Town Sacramento. Read the 2011 article from Gold Prospecting Magazine featuring Grace Brethren Elementary students.
Cost of the trip is approx. $1180 per parent + student participant, which includes airfare and tours.*

Sixth Grade
This trip features participation in a week long Nature Study Camp at Angeles Crest Christian Camp in nearby Angeles Crest Forest. Students sleep in cabins, participate in nature walks and outdoor science labs, daily chapel times, and enjoy getting to know each other better.
Cost for the trip is approx. $425 per participant.*
