VISUAL ARTS
VISUAL ARTS students are engaged in discovering their creative expression through photography, drawing, painting, ceramics, art media and yearbook design. The teaching staff is dedicated in assisting the student find the joy and confidence in their creative work. Student artwork can be found on display throughout the campus. Opportunities for the beginner or the highly skilled artist are offered at Grace.
Art Media
Art Media engages a student in the understanding of art history and prehistoric times, gaining an appreciation for the various art disciplines, mediums and techniques. Learning how art relates to the cultural, religious and political events of the times and cross-curricular features through various lessons provide students opportunity to gain knowledge of how art is integrated with other disciplines. Media, techniques, processes and artistic styles entice the creative student to explore their art more passionately.
Ceramics
Ceramics exposes a student to the principle of basic three dimensional design through the medium of clay. Beginning with construction techniques, hand building processes, press molds and hump molds introduce the students to using class. Second semester students are introduced to throwing a pot on a potter's wheel. They will each make a bowl on the wheel and learn trimming techniques. They learn pertinent vocabulary and gain knowledge of historical and cultural content. Creative expression, aesthetic valuing and artistic perception are used to create their unique designs.
Computer Tools
Computer Tools prepares students to enter a computer driven society. Basics of essential programs like Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint will become second nature for the individual student as they gain knowledge in formats, layouts, spreadsheets, formulas, like presentations, animation and inserting sound and music. Opportunity to assist in production program layout and design and promotional advertising are available to these students.
Photography
Photography students produce aesthetically pleasing, artistic and high quality photographs be developing their perceptual skills. Historical traditions in photography, current media applications, comparing photography and video are studied. Students will learn the relevance to the arts and society as a whole. Visual Arts students may be selected to have their work displayed in locations throughout the campus.
Yearbook
Yearbook students are introduced and learn to apply the basic elements of feature and caption writing, photojournalism, layout and design and to create the campus yearbook. Learning Adobe InDesign software and creating dazzling, innovative spreads is an added bonus. The students further learn to gather information accurately for publication. As the Grace yearbook moves to it's publication deadline, the components and content of the yearbook showcase the student's creative skill.
