Congratulations are in order!
Team G – Chandler Nelson, Ethan Avery & Nick Marencik from the Intro to Engineering Design Class under Sra. Ruben won 5th Place in the 2019 Chevron Design Challenge: Regional Competition on April 13, 2019. Saturday at the Hawthorne High School.
The Chevron Design Challenge a one-day competition that allows Project Lead The Way (PLTW) California high school students who are currently taking or have taken PLTW’s Introduction to Engineering Design class to put their creativity to the test.
Students apply what they learned in class to compete against other high school students to create an innovative item based on a design brief they are given that morning. The design brief asks for a design solution to a problem, complete with drawings and 3-D modeling, present their design solution to a panel of engineering judges. The team was given a task to design a desk that could be re-purposed from other school materials, could last 10 years, costs less than $250, and would encourage learning. They presented their idea - The Cassette Desk.
