Pearl Harbor Survivor Visits 5th Grade
Pearl Harbor survivor Jack Rogo visited Mrs. Graves' fifth grade class. The students were fascinated as he described eating breakfast on Ford Island as the attack began. When he ran outside to see what was happening he saw a plane flying low over top of him. He said it might sound naïve but he literally waved to the Japanese tail gunner and the tail gunner waved back. You could have heard a pin drop in the class as he described the rescue effort that began shortly after the class began. The heroism that was displayed that day was incredible. We are blessed to live in such a great country and it was an example to the students how that freedom has come at a great cost.
