Walk Through The Revolution
5th grade students at Grace Brethren Elementary had the opportunity to Walk Through The Revolution, Friday, January 18, 2019. Students learned about and role played important characters of the Revolutionary era. Each class was broken up into
three groups, the Red Coats, Blue Rebels, and White Tories. In an ironic twist of history, the red coats won! Coming dressed in Revolutionary era costumes, the students reenacted important battles scenes and quotes to the thrill of their classmates. Back in the classroom, students created artwork including silhouettes, signed the Declaration of Independence with ink and a quill, played 13 colonies bingo, and other games. The students sampled era foods such as hardtack, mush cakes, and Johnny cakes. Teachers were able to bring history alive in a way that the students won’t easily forget.
