2019 Summer Academics

Remedial Summer School Details
These are courses that students are repeating in order to earn credit. All courses are UC approved.

June 17 - July 19
Times: 9:00am-1:00pm

·         Flexible attendance: students must attend 6 hours of on campus time per week, per semester (6-hrs a week = 1 semester, 12-hrs a week = 2 semesters)

o   Students are expected to spend approximately 12.5 hours per week, per semester, in order to complete the course by July 19 (12.5-hrs a week = 1 semester, 25-hrs a week = 2 semesters).

o   Students may work at school 20 hours per week if desired.

o   Students failing to meet the weekly hour requirements will be removed from the program.  

·         Courses offered: Nearly all classes will be offered.  Math courses are taken through ALEKS, while other courses through Ignitia.  Courses will be selected by following the registration form found below.

·         $400/per semester

·         Tests must be taken on campus for online coursework

·         Students are able to remediate up to 2 semesters.

Advancement Summer School Details - Full Year Courses
These are courses that students are taking for the first time in order to advance to the next level during the following school year. All courses are accredited by WASC/ACSI and are UC approved.

• Dates: June 11 - July 13
• Time: 9am - 2pm
• $800 course fee
• Registration deadline is May 18th

• Note: A minimum number of students is required for a course to run.

Advancement Summer School Details - Semester Courses
This course is offered to allow students to advance to the next level during the following school year. This is NOT a remedial course.

This course is an online course and students will be expected to work approximately 5 hours a day in order to stay on track. It is NOT recommended that this class be taken if the student will be vacationing or has other commitments during the class period of June 11 - June 29. A required orientation will be held on Monday, June 11 from 12:30 to 2:00. Computer and internet access is required. All courses are accredited by WASC/ACSI and are UC approved.

• Critical Thinking and Composition
• Dates: June 11 - June 29
• $400 course fee
• Registration deadline is June 8th
• Note: A minimum number of students is required for a course to run.

Math Camp
The math camp is offered to review key concepts and prepare students for the upcoming school year. These classes are highly encouraged for students who struggle in math.

• July 30-August 10 $300
• Algebra I 9:00-12:00
• Geometry 9:00-12:00
• Algebra II 12:30-3:30

Math Foundations Workshop
The Math Foundations class will help prepare incoming seventh graders for Math 7 and come alongside those students that had some struggles during Math 7 and are moving into Pre-Algebra. The content being highlighted are fractions, decimals, percentages, integers, and proportions.

Writing Camp
The Institute for Excellence in Writing is the foundation for the Writing Camp. The IEW program is used extensively at Grace Brethren Jr/Sr High School and provides students with helpful tools for effective writing. The Writing Camp is geared toward students entering the 6th through 9th grades.
