If we are to keep our student home if we suspect any illness, how will the attendance policy be adjusted in at all?
While attendance has a direct correlation to a child's academic performance, we will be lenient with our absence policy this year. Timely completion of assigned work and open communication with faculty and staff will be the lenses we look through to help us ensure students are staying current in the program. If your child is ill, please keep them home and let us know. This is important in keeping our campus healthy.
If my student needs to be home from school for an extended period of time, how will learning take place in our home?
Elementary: Students will have access to all assignments and coursework via Google Classroom and have a minimum of two Zoom meetings per week with their teacher.
Jr/Sr High: Students will have access to all assignments and coursework via Google Classroom and have access to Zoom. However, students are expected to be on campus.
If public health conditions change, will GBS be ready to seamlessly shift back and forth between remote and on-campus learning?
Yes, we are ready to pivot between remote learning and on-campus learning. It’s important to remember COVID-19 continues to be a fluid situation and one that requires us to remain flexible and ready to pivot at a moment's notice. We are committed to diligently monitoring guidelines and directives issued by federal, state and local health authorities to ensure we are making the most informed decisions possible.

How will students learn about the health and safety protocols and what’s expected of them on campus?
How will GBS protect students, faculty and staff upon the return to in-person, on-campus learning?
Our top priority is the health, safety, and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff. The implementation of a combination of increased health and safety strategies allow us to safely return to campus. These strategies include layers of protection, and, when used by all members of our community, they greatly decrease the risk of spreading germs when we are together. These protections include daily health screenings, staying home when sick, the use of face coverings, regular handwashing, sanitizing daily and physical distancing.
How will the classrooms, toys, playground equipment and lunch areas be cleaned?
How can I help keep Grace a healthy campus?
1. Keep your student home if they are not feeling well.
2. Teach good hygiene practices. Encourage frequent hand washing and the use of hand sanitizer. Practice coughing and sneezing into elbows. Add daily temperature checks to your routine. Watch the CDC video.
3. Maintain preventative health practices. Have your child practice wearing a mask. Continue regular doctor visits. Keep immunizations/physicals current. Encourage and talk to your child about the importance of physical distancing.
4. Limit interactions with people outside your immediate household. The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus.
If a staff member or student has a slight fever, but no other symptoms, can they still come to campus?
If a person's body temperature is 100.4°F with an oral thermometer or 99.5° with a no-touch thermometer or above, they will not be permitted on campus. All members of our community will be subject to our daily health screenings which includes answering health questions and temperature checks. If anyone develops COVID symptoms while at school, we will move them to an isolated, private location where we'll follow recommended procedures for isolation, notification and contact tracing. Visit the CDC’s website to learn more – If you are sick.
What is the definition of “exposure” to COVID-19?
A community-based COVID-19 exposure is defined as having occurred when a person has been in close contact (less than 6 feet) for 15 mins or more either at one time or over the course of a day with a person with COVID-19. A person who is considered to have had close contact, will be referred for testing.
What is GBS’ protocol if a student or faculty/staff test positive for COVID-19?
We have developed specific protocols for notification and contact tracing in the event a student or faculty/staff test positive for COVID-19. These protocols include:
- Notification will be sent to our school’s COVID coordinator.
- The area where the affected person was will be closed and sanitized following CDPH guidelines.
- Those who have been in close contact with the positive individual will be notified and be referred for testing.
- Following all HIPPA laws, the identity of the COVID positive individual will not be shared.
