SECOND SEMESTER PLAN

ON ARRIVAL

• Parents should drop-off students in the parking lots or nearby campus and students will go to their designated gate.
• Parents and guardians are able to enter the front office, but may not enter campus without a scheduled appointment.
• Students must wear a mask once they depart the vehicle.
• Students will go directly to their designated zone after arriving to campus.
• Please do not arrive on campus more than 30 minutes prior to their first classes.

ONCE ON CAMPUS

• Students will have their temperature checked upon entering campus and answer a brief health questionnaire.
• At 7:55 AM, students will proceed to classrooms, practicing social distancing. 
• Prior to entering or leaving the classroom, students will sanitize hands. Hand sanitizer is available in all rooms. 
   

• Students should leave campus within 15 minutes after their last class unless they are in tutoring.
• Students must keep masks on until they have departed campus.
• We ask that students not congregate upon exiting the campus.
• Parents should be prepared to pick up their students in the parking lot or near campus.
• All parents should plan a meeting place with their students so they can walk directly to their vehicle.
• It is asked that both parents and students wear masks in the parking lots while outside their vehicle.
   

All students and staff will be health screened prior to entering campus.  They will be asked health questions and have their temperature taken.  If a student's temperature is over over 99.5 (taken with the handheld thermometer), they will not be allowed to enter campus.  While waiting for the health check, students will be required to social distance.

To help the flow of students on and off campus there will be three points of entry before and after school during our drop off and pick up times. 

• To limit the risk of COVID-19 transmission, school campuses are open to visitors by appointment only.  Call (805) 522-4667 to make an appointment.
• Parents and guardians are not permitted to walk children to their classroom or wait on campus for students to be dismissed.
• Only students and staff are permitted on campus without an appointment.
• Whenever possible, video conferencing or phone calls should be utilized for meetings with teachers or staff members. When alternate meeting styles are not possible, an on-campus meeting can be scheduled.
• Meetings with administration or staff member, should be scheduled ahead of time.
• When arriving for scheduled meetings, all visitors must check in at the main office to complete a symptom check.

• Students will be on campus every other day from 8:00 AM – 2:40 PM
• Students will be taking all classes on campus.  Each class will be 45 minutes long.
• Students will be divided into Groups 1 and 2 to determine who is campus which days.  Group 1 will consist of students whose last name begins with letters A-L, while Group 2 is M-Z.
• There will be no more combined classes.
• Most students will have no Zoom.

Second Semester Bell Schedule

• Students desks will be positioned 6 feet apart.
• Students will bring their books/supplies in their backpack daily. The backpack will stay with the student next to their desk. 
• Students will not share personal items with other students.

Student supplies will be used by each individual student and not shared.  Anything that may be required to be shared will be disinfected after each use.

• All assignments will be posted to Google Classroom.
• If a student is absent due to illness or quarantine they will be able to access all of their school work through Google Classroom and be able to join live classroom instruction via Zoom. 

ALL STUDENTS, TEACHERS, STAFF & VISITORS WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR FACE MASKS ON CAMPUS

• Face masks are:
  • required at all times for all staff, students and visitors.
  • required to cover the nose and mouth completely.
  • to be worn when arriving and departing campus, and anytime the student is in the classroom or walking around campus.
• Face masks must be worn while outside, and removed only when actively eating, drinking, or participating in strenuous exercise while remaining physically distanced. 
• NOTE: Face shields do not qualify as masks.

Please do not bring students to school if they aren’t feeling well. Absences due to illness will be excused. 

During this unique time if a student is displaying any symptoms of COVID-19 they need to remain at home.  Our primary goal is to maintain the health of our school community.  

Your child should not come to school if the answer to any of the questions below is yes:

• Is your child’s temperature on a hand-held thermometer of 99.5 degrees F or 100.4 degrees F on a traditional  thermometer or higher?
• Does your child have symptoms of respiratory infection (fever or shaking chills, cough, shortness of breath, severe sore throat, loss of taste or smell, or muscle aches)?
• Does your child have intestinal problems, diarrhea or vomiting?

Please contact the Front Office if your child will be absent.

• Sickness: If the student has a new or worsening cough, fever of 100.4F or higher, chills, muscle pain, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell, then he or she must stay home.
• Close Contact: Close Contact is defined as anyone who has spent 15 or more minutes over the course of a day within 6 feet of a COVID-19 infected individual. If your student has been in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, he or she must stay home for 10 days since the last exposure.  
• A Positive COVID-19 Test: If your student has tested positive for COVID-19, he or she must stay home for at least 10 days from the onset of symptoms or a positive test, whichever is earlier.  At the conclusion of the 10 days, he or she may return to school if he or she has been fever free, without medication, for 24 hours and is symptom free.

SECTION 1 

DOES YOUR STUDENT HAVE:

• Temperature of 99.5 F on a hand-held or 100.4 F on traditional thermometer or higher
• Congestion/runny nose
• Nausea/Vomiting/Diarrhea
• Sore throat
• Headache
• Fatigue/muscle ache

If you answer yes to any question in Section 1, your child should remain home until symptom free for at least 24 hours.  

SECTION 2 

DOES YOUR STUDENT HAVE:

• Cough
• Difficulty breathing
• Loss of taste/smell?

If you  answer yes to any question in Section 2, you should consult your health care provider and the student should remain home until symptoms subside.  
 

if your child tested positive for COVID-19 - or is in close contact to someone with COVID-19 - they should follow the quarantine processes outlined by their health care provider.

• Tables will be dispersed throughout the campus to allow for responsible social distancing.
• Lunch vendors will continue to provide a variety of options.
• All lunches must be purchased using a lunch ticket bought in advance on the school's website.  
• The lunch ticket price is $7.00. You may prepay online or purchase with a check in the front office. Please make checks out to GBS or Grace Brethren with your student's name in the memo or on the outer envelope. Cash transaction will not be allowed.  
• The Student Store will not be open at this time.

Cohorts - defined as the group of students and staff that move together on campus, such as an individual class.

According to VCPH close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case is defined as someone who has been with an individual within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes over the course of a day.  

Close friends with significant contact outside of the class could also be considered a close contact.

All close contacts will be referred for testing and may not return to campus until the quarantine period has been met.

If COVID-19 is suspected, the student must be tested and results shared with the school prior to returning to campus.  If the student tests positive for COVID-19, the student must be quarantined until fever free without medication for 24 hours and ten days after symptoms first occurred.

If an immediate family member has tested positive for COVID-19 or is awaiting results or experiencing COVID-19 like symptoms we ask to be notified.  Your student may need to stay home until the test results are known.

If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, the school must be notified immediately.  A sick student or staff member will be advised not to return until they have met CDC criteria to discontinue home isolation, including at least 24 hours fever free without medication, symptoms have improved and at least 10 days since symptoms first appeared.

Communication will be sent to all close contact individuals following state FERPA/HIPAA guidelines for confidentiality.  VCPH will also be contacted.

• When an individual on campus tests positive for COVID-19 the school will identify all staff and students who are considered to be close contact. 

• All impacted families and staff will receive communication about potential exposure of their student while maintaining confidentiality.

In order to return to campus, the following must be followed:

• Students that test positive of COVID-19 will be notified of CDC criteria of when to discontinue home isolation and return to campus. One must be 24 hrs fever free without medication, easing symptoms, and at least 10 days since symptoms first appeared.

• Students that do not have a usual source of care will be coordinated with the VCPH PHN to arrange for same day testing through the PHL by contacting 805-981-5101.

• While the student is awaiting initial test results, classroom instruction will take place via distance learning.

Our teachers are prepared to transition into Remote Learning at any point during the semester. 

For students who need to home isolate or quarantine, there will be supported through Google Classroom and participate in live Zoom classroom instruction.

The school will coordinate with VCPH to determine if and when a partial or whole campus closure is required.

• All students will be instructed to wash their hands consistently and thoroughly throughout the day.
• Hand sanitizer will be available to students in the classrooms.

• All high touch areas will be cleaned regularly throughout the day.
• All bathrooms will be cleaned and sanitized throughout the day. 
• All classrooms desks will be disinfected between each class.

• Bathrooms will be disinfected on a regular basis throughout the day.
• A maximum of four students will be allowed in a bathroom at a time.

The water spigot part of the water fountains has been capped, but the touch-less water bottle refilling stations are available.  We highly encourage students to bring their own water bottle with their name clearly marked.
