7/22/2020 - Remote Learning Plan

Even before Gov. Newsom shut down all schools, we knew that there was a real possibility that we might have to pivot to remote learning at any time during the school year due to students testing positive for COVID-19.  Our demeanor is that we need to educate our students in light of the virus, not run from the virus.  Below is our remote learning plan that we will use as we begin our school year awaiting our re-opening.

Online Platforms to be Utilized

  1. Google Classroom
    1. Every elementary student will be given a login and password to Google Suite including access to email.  Their email will be restricted to send and receive emails from gracebrethren.com accounts.
    2. All daily assignments and work will be posted in Google Classroom by Friday of the previous week.
    3. All assignments will be turned in via Google Classroom.
Tutorial videos will be posted to assist students and parents as they navigate Google Classroom.
  2. Zoom
    1. Teachers will use Zoom as their primary platform to teach and instruct students in each subject area.
    2. Students will be able to log into Zoom using their gracebrethren.com email address.
    3. This platform will be used for both full class instructional times as well as follow up, small group instruction and tutoring times.
  3. Devices
    1. The school will make available chomebooks for upper elementary students and ipads for lower elementary students who need a device at home.
    2. The device can be checked out through the front office and returned once remote learning has concluded.

Daily Schedule

  1. Each day every class will start in Zoom.  Every student will be required to attend their classroom Zoom meetings at which time attendance will be taken.
    1. Grade levels will set up a daily schedule starting at 8:30am when each subject will be taught.  Students will be required to attend each of the Zoom meetings throughout the day.
    2. If a student needs to miss a full or partial day, a parent note is required to excuse the student's absence. This can be done via email to the teacher.
    3. The daily schedule will include breaks for snack, exercise and lunch.
  2. Each class will continue to meet with their pull out teachers via Zoom (Music/art, PE, Library, and Computers).
    1. A schedule will be created for each class and will meet via Zoom at least once a week for each pull out.
  3. The typical school day will go from 8:30am and until approximately 2:30pm depending on students completing their individual assignments and coursework.
  4. Students who attend Reading and/or Math Intervention will continue to be able to access assistance through Zoom during a regularly scheduled time.
  5. Teachers will communicate weekly to allow families to prepare for the following week.  Any large assignments, projects and/or tests along with key dates will be placed in their weekly communication to help parents prepare.

SAMPLE DAILY SCHEDULES

These daily schedules can and will change between now and the start of the school year, but we wanted you to be able to see what a typical day will look like for upper elementary, lower elementary and kindergarten students.  You can see there is a variety within the work day.  We also understand that lower elementary and kindergarten students do not have the attention spans to be on Zoom for long periods of time.  So although a math lesson may last for 45 minutes, it does not mean that they will be on zoom for that entire time.
