Preschool

welcome to the 2018-2019 Preschool year

We are so excited to have your family join us here at Grace Brethren Preschool!  For many of you, this is your child's first school experience and we know that entrusting your child to others is a significant experience.  We are honored that you have chosen us and are dedicated to partnering with you to provide the best early education experience for your child.

There is always something fun for the students, family engagement opportunities and key events going on at the Preschool.  All of our events, activities and school closure dates will be listed on the parent portal for you to view.  Listed below are some of our key August happenings:

  • Wednesday, August 8th - last day of summer program
  • Thursday - Monday , August 9th - 13th - Preschool is closed for teacher orientation and prep
  • Tuesday, August 14th - Meet the Teacher day from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  No student drop off this day.  This is an opportunity for parents and students to visit their new classrooms and meet their new teachers.
  • Tuesday, August 14th - Back to School night - 6:30 p.m.  During this parent orientation, parents are provided with information on our policies and procedures of the school.  Teachers will answer any questions and present their classroom expectations.  This is a parent only event.
  • Wednesday, August 15th - First Day of School
  • Monday, September 3rd - Preschool Closed, Labor Day

Action items

  • Complete all GBS required health forms.  If you have not done so already, please make sure your Physicians Report, Birth Certificate, Immunizations, and Non-Prescription Consent forms are turned in.

  • Understand Dress Code policy - Children need to come to school dressed in comfortable clothing that is okay to get soiled. Children should wear closed-toe and closed-heel shoes or tennis shoes at all times. Girls need to wear shorts under their dresses for climbing and playing. Elastic waist bands and snaps are preferred for shorts and pants. Items that depict scary or violent scenes will not be allowed.

  • 2018-2019 Major Dates Calendar
  • Sign In/Sign Out Procedures -  The student Sign-in/Sign-out book is centrally located to your child's class and it's where you sign your child in and out each day.  Each student has his/her own page on which the responsible adult must sign his/her full signature.  Remember to always be prepared to show ID when picking up your child. Students will not be released without confirmation of identity.  Please see the entire Sign In/Sign Out Procedures in the Preschool Handbook.
  • Parking/Traffic Safety - Here are a few safety reminders for when you are dropping off or picking up your child from school:  
  1.  You may park on Avenida Simi by the Preschool Office or you may park in the parking lot by the playground.
  2. Always proceed at a SLOW speed when driving through the parking lot. 
  3. Watch for children crossing the parking lot, as well as entering & exiting vehicles.
  4. Do not leave a child unattended in a parked car (California Vehicle Code 15620).
  5. Always be prepared to show your ID.
  • What to Volunteer in your child's classroom or for certain events?  Contact your child's teach or Preschool Office for more information.

Extended/EXTRA Day and After School Enrichment

  • Extended/Extra Day Information
  • Extended Day Care is available for half day students at $5.00 per hour until 6:00pm.
  • Extra full day charge is $45.00 regardless of the number of hours used.  Extra half day charge is $30.00.
  • Please contact the Preschool Office for approval.  Availability may vary.
  • After School Enrichment Programs Information - As part of our program here at the preschool we are able to bring extra-curricular programs to our campus for your child to participate in. Each of these activities occurs on campus in the afternoons, starting at 3:30 pm, and one of our staff members is always present. Information for each of the classes is available in the Preschool Office.

Elementary

welcome to the 2018-2019 Elementary School year

We are blessed to welcome our new families to our campus as well as our returning students and parents.  We truly believe that our community is a family where we get to minister and serve one another as a part of the body of Christ.  It is a joy to see our students and families grow through their time at Grace Elementary.  Below you will find some very useful information whether you are a new parent or have been here for many years such as Meet the Teacher Day, class supply list and a key dates calendar.  We look forward to partnering with your family for this upcoming school year.  As always, if you do have a question, please do not hesitate to contact the front office at 805-527-0101.

  • Our Lunch menu varies monthly.  You may purchase single day lunches, weekly or monthly.  Parents may complete a monthly lunch form and return to School Office with a check or cash or may choose to purchase online in the Parent Portal in Community Resources, Lunch.

Supplies and Uniforms

  • Supply Lists for all grades.
  • Sue Mills supplies our uniforms for the Elementary School.  They will be on the elementary school campus on 7/21 from 9am-1pm in the MPR.  Visit millswear.com and enter school code 504.  Download our Dress Code Policy here.

Extended Day and After School Enrichment

  • Extended/Extra Day Information
  • Extended Day Care is available every day before and after school at a reasonable rate for our families who are working or just need some extra time in the day.  Our morning extended care hours are from 6:30am till 7:45am.  After school, any students not picked up during our carpool time will be brought to our extended care program at 3:15pm.  We will have staff on campus watching your student, helping them with their homework, until 6:00pm
  • After School Sports Programs
    • At the 4th-6th grade levels our school competes in the TVCAL league against other Christian elementary schools in Ventura County. The sports offered are girls volleyball, flag football, boys and girls basketball and boys and girls soccer.  
    • GBYS is a community youth sports league that is open to the community of Simi Valley.  GBYS has tackle football, cheerleading, soccer, and baseball leagues running thoughout the year.  For more information, click here.
  • Club Opportunities on Campus - We believe that the Lord has blessed each student with a variety of gifts and we desire them to be able to use them on our campus.  There are a variety of clubs and after school activities that students can be involved in during the school year which allows students to explore their talents and abilities.  Speak with your teacher or call the front office for more details.
    • Spanish Club - Senora Ruben brings down her high school AP students to teach Spanish to our elementary kids.  They run one 8 week class each semester.  
    • After School Theater - Each semester our High School drama department puts on an elementary starring our students.  The six week program practices three days a week after school and finishes with a performance in front of their classmates in the MPR.
    • Robotics - 5th and 6th grade students have the opportunity to design, program and operate robots that they choose.  Our elementary robotics teams then take their robots to competitions where they compete against other elementary teams.  
    • SAM Club - Our Science and Math Club is open to 5th and 6th grade students who want to go into greater depth when it comes to learning about the world around them.  Every year rotates between physics and forensics. 
    • Choir - Students from 3rd through 6th grade are able to expand their love and passion for music and singing by joining our school choir.  They will sing at several functions throughout the school year, culminating with competing at the ACSI choral festival in the spring.

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at Grace Brethren.  We are excited to partner with you once again in the important task of helping raise the next generation of Christian leaders, critical thinkers, and culture influencers. We have prayerfully comprised a staff, academic programs, and extra-curricular offerings intended to inspire your students to recognize their preciousness in the eyes of God, and understand that they were made for a purpose in service to Christ.

  • 2018-2019 Major Dates Calendar 
  • Orientations - New Student Orientation will be held on Monday, August 13th. This will be for ALL new students at all grade levels, including International students.  Details of the day will be sent home.  There will also be a New Parent Orientation that evening starting in the MPR - see times below.  This is an important meeting of information, please plan to attend.
    • New Student Orientation - Monday, Aug 13th at 10 - 11:30 am
    • International Student Orientation - Monday, Aug 13th at 1- 3 pm
    • New Family Orientation - Monday, Aug 13th Junior High at 6:00 pm & High School at 7:30 pm
  • Back-To-School Night will be on Wednesday evening, September 5th.  The evening kicks off at 6:30 PM and is an opportunity for you to meet each of your student's teachers.  As you walk through your students schedule, each of his or her instructors will prepare a 10-minute introduction to the course.  Don't miss this informative event. 
  • Our Lunch menu varies weekly.  Lunch tickets can be purchased in advance in the Parent Portal in Community Resources, Lunch or in person at the Student Store.
  • Sign In/Sign Out Procedures or Absence Notification - Parents of an absent student should communicate (via telephone, e-mail, etc.) the reason for the absence to front office by 8:30 a.m. All students must be signed in and out at the Front Office by a parent during school hours.
  • Student Parking Areas - The GBHS student parking lot is located on Royal Avenue in the parking lot of Centerpoint Church. The school‘s good neighbor policy requires students who choose to park on the street to do so only in areas of the street that line the perimeter of the school. Seniors may park in the first row of the main school parking lot (on Cherry Avenue) when spaces are available.  Students may not park in faculty parking zones.  Student Parking Map.

Books, Supplies and Summer Assignments

Athletics, Fine Arts and AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT 

  • Junior and Senior High Athletics.  Jr/Sr Athletes must be athletically cleared to play sports. In order to be considered athletically cleared, all of the online forms need to be completed as well as turning in a current physical and the signed confirmation page to the Athletic Department. Click here to begin the online process. More information about this process can be found on the Community Resources page.  
  • Fine Arts Program Schedule.  There is something for everyone!  
  • Club Opportunities on Campus.  With 15+ clubs and organizations, every student can expand their horizons and meet new people.
  • Tutoring Information
    • Every instructor is available for extra help after school from 2:30 to 3:30 pm.  Please let the instructor know ahead of time and they will be there to assist.  In addition to this, we offer subject specific tutoring labs in both math and writing.
    • Peer tutoring is offered twice per week for all levels of math.  This highly productive environment is overseen by staff and is an opportunity for your students to get one-on-one assistance in math from either an instructor or an upperclassman.  It is offered twice per week from 2:30 to 3:30 pm.  Days and location will be announced at the start of the year.
    • The Writing Center is a place that is open twice per week from 2:30 to 3:30 pm as well. Here, students can bring an essay or another major writing assignment they are working on and get professional assistance from either an instructor or an upperclassman.   Days and locations will be announced at the start of the year.
    • For extra tutoring, our Student Services office provides a list of highly qualified, subject area specific tutors for hire.  See Mrs. Angela Carlton, our Guidance Counselor, in the Student Services Office for details.
